MRO teams up with Angel Foundation to help cancer-fighting families in need.

Minneapolis Radiation Oncology was a Gold Sponsor at the Angel Foundation Gala held on Saturday, January 24, 2020 at the Hilton Minneapolis. The event is an annual fundraiser for Minnesota families in need, who are dealing with cancer treatment. This year, the Gala set a record-breaking attendance of 800 and raised over $650,000 in donations.

Dr. Richard Diaz and his family led the contingent on hand to represent MRO. Dr. Diaz has long been active in the care community – in addition to his MRO practice – as an investigator on National Institute of Health cancer research and in the Metro-Minnesota Community Oncology Research Consortium. “The Angel Gala is an affair to support families in need,” he said, “and helping out is a family affair for us.”

Richard F. Diaz, MD, Jacob Andros, RN, and Nikki Flemming, RN – all from MRO | Fairview Southdale – were on hand to support families fighting cancer.

Dr. Diaz’s wife, Jean, is an Angel Gala Committee Member. She said “Dealing with cancer is tough battle by itself. But for people in financial need – who have their work, their lives interrupted – it’s even tougher.”

“At Minneapolis Radiation Oncology, we specialize in providing cancer patients access to the advanced radiation treatment they need close to home. At MRO, we support the Angel Foundation’s mission to financially help cancer patients with basic needs right in their home, like groceries, gas, utilities and housing.”

This year, the Angel Foundation expects to help about 3,000 Minnesota families, according to Angel Foundation Chairman and CEO, Dave Becker, who called this year’s event “our most successful gala ever.”

Angel Foundation is a Twin Cities-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide support to local adults with cancer and their families. Since 2001, Angel Foundation has provided over $9 million in emergency financial assistance, education and support for Minnesota adults with cancer, helping families facing cancer find more everyday moments of joy.
