I am grateful and humbled to be able to work with and guide my patients and their loved ones during the most challenging moments in life. Our patients are the real heroes and we do everything we can to support them through their battle. They can count on us here at MRO to make a treatment plan that is evidence-based and that is also tailored to respect their individual goals of care. When a patient asks me how I would treat them if they were my family member, I tell them that is the only way I treat all of my patients – just like family.

Dr. Khattab completed medical school at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He initially trained in neurosurgery at NYU. After becoming intrigued by recent advances in radiotherapy and radiosurgery – and how it can be used to treat cancers as well as benign conditions – he transferred to radiation oncology residency at Vanderbilt. He was selected to serve as Chief Resident during his final year at Vanderbilt. Dr. Khattab has over 35 publications in prestigious journals, has been invited to give lectures nationally and internationally, and has been asked to share his expertise with industry leaders as a consultant.

As a radiation oncologist, Dr. Khattab primarily focuses on treatment of patients with all types of malignancies including breast, prostate, lung and gastrointestinal cancers and brain tumors. Dr. Khattab has numerous publications pertaining to treatment of patients with these cancers. He uses the most advanced techniques including VMAT, IMRT, IGRT, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic ablative/body radiotherapy (SABR/SBRT), and brachytherapy.

Dr. Khattab also has a special expertise in treating benign diseases. He has used his unique background in radiation oncology and neurosurgery to pioneer novel noninvasive treatments expanding the use of “functional radiosurgery” for benign conditions such as treatment-resistant major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, essential tremor, parkinsonian tremor, trigeminal neuralgia, chronic pain, and mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. In fact, Dr. Khattab and his collaborators were first in the world to treat some of these conditions, such as major depression, OCD, and tremor, with a frameless and incisionless approach. Healthcare leaders have sought Dr. Khattab’s expertise in the management of these diseases using radiosurgery. Dr. Khattab also has a special interest and has published and lectured extensively on stereotactic radiosurgery for treatment of vestibular schwannomas (acoustic neuromas), arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), pituitary tumors, meningiomas, and paragangliomas. Dr. Khattab has Gamma Knife Perfexion/ICON training and certification and also uses frameless linac-based radiosurgery.

Personal

When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Khattab enjoys quality time with his friends and family, hiking, live music, travel and learning foreign languages. He speaks Arabic and English fluently, and has studied Spanish, German and Portuguese. He loves how languages allow him to connect with people from all over the world and to experience their unique cultures more in depth.
