At Minneapolis Radiation Oncology, our mission—”Your Fight, Our Mission”—extends far beyond the walls of our clinics. We are proud to stand alongside our patients, their families, and the wider community in the fight against breast cancer.
This year, MRO was honored to participate in the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. Dr. Colton Gits, a board-certified radiation oncologist at MRO, shared a few words on why this event—and this community—matters so much to our team and the patients we serve.
A Message of Hope and Progress
By Dr. Colton Gits
“I’m Dr. Colton Gits, and it’s an incredible honor to be here today, surrounded by such strength, purpose, and community.
In my work, I have the privilege of caring for many individuals with breast cancer, including those at all stages of disease and treatment. Many of my patients are diagnosed with early-stage, or non-metastatic, breast cancer—and for these individuals, our goal is cure. Through the hard work of patients and medical teams, we are able to help many people not only overcome their diagnosis, but do so with full, meaningful lives.
At the same time, I also care for patients living with metastatic breast cancer, a form of the disease that has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. While we don’t yet have a cure for metastatic breast cancer, we are still filled with hope. Today’s treatments can make a meaningful difference—helping extend lives and, just as importantly, allowing people to live those lives with as much quality and dignity as possible.”
Why We Walk
The progress Dr. Gits mentions isn’t accidental. It is fueled by research, advocacy, and the tireless work of organizations like Susan G. Komen.
“Progress in breast cancer benefits everyone,” Dr. Gits continued. “The advances that help us cure early-stage disease also lay the foundation for better treatments in advanced stages. The research to target metastatic disease pushes us to think bigger, be bolder, and do better for all patients.”
We are currently in a time of real progress. With new therapies being developed and science evolving faster than ever, the promise for a future without breast cancer has never been brighter.
You Are Not Alone
For those currently navigating a diagnosis, the path can be incredibly challenging. But as we saw at the MORE THAN PINK Walk, the strength of this community ensures that no one has to face it alone.
At MRO, we are inspired daily by the survivors, the fighters, and the families who keep moving forward. Thank you to everyone who walked, donated, and cheered. Together, we are making a difference.
